Treatment and prevention of postoperative inflammation and pain in cataract surgery patients

Mechanism of Action
Bromfenac inhibits cyclooxygenase 1 and 2, reducing prostaglandin synthesis, which decreases inflammation and pain in the eye.

Dosage/Instructions
One drop to the affected eye(s) twice daily beginning 1 day prior to surgery, continued on the day of surgery, and for 2 weeks post-surgery

Pregnancy & Nursing
No adequate studies for use during pregnancy. Avoid in late pregnancy. Unknown if excreted in breast milk.

Pediatric Use
No studies

Contraindications, side effects, etc.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to bromfenac or related NSAIDs. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
Warnings: Bromfenac may cause stinging or burning upon instillation and may temporarily blur vision. Systemic absorption can occur, potentially leading to systemic side effects. Prolonged use should be avoided.
Common Side Effects: Common side effects include stinging or burning sensation, transient blurred vision, and increased redness in the eye.
