
Indication
Treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci, such as preseptal cellulitis

Mechanism of Action
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death

Available Quantities
250 mg, 500 mg capsules

Dosage/Instructions
Adults: 250 to 500 mg every 6 hours. Children under 40 kg: 12.5 to 25 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 hours

Pregnancy & Nursing
No evidence of risk in humans but studies inadequate. Generally considered safe in pregnancy. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman

Contraindications, side effects, etc.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dicloxacillin, penicillins, or any component of the formulation.
Warnings/Precautions: Use with caution in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other beta-lactams. Monitor renal function in patients with renal impairment.
Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, allergic reactions (rash, hives), and rarely, interstitial nephritis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
