Mechanism of Action
Alcaftadine is a H1 histamine receptor antagonist and inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells. Decreased chemotaxis and inhibition of eosinophil activation has also been demonstrated.

Dosage/Instructions
Instill 1 drop into each eye once a day

Pregnancy & Nursing
No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk

Pediatric Use
≥2 years

Contraindications, side effects, etc.
Contraindications: Should not be used if allergic to alcaftadine or in children younger than 2 years old. Not recommended for treating eye irritation caused by contact lenses. Warnings: Avoid use while wearing contact lenses; wait at least 10 minutes after using Lastacaft before putting in contact lenses. Do not let the dropper tip touch any surface to avoid contamination. Side Effects: Common side effects include mild burning, stinging, or irritation; eye redness or itching; runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, flu symptoms; headache. Serious side effects may include changes in vision, eye pain, increased eye redness, itching of the eye that worsens or lasts for more than 72 hours.
