Diagnosis of ocular surface disease, dry eye syndromes, corneal and conjunctival lesions
Mechanism of Action

Mechanism of Action

Stains devitalized cells, mucus, and corneal nerves; photoreactive, generating singlet oxygen; stains healthy cells in a dose-dependent manner. Potential for toxicity/cell death especially with light exposure. Commonly used to identify viral dendrites, but antiviral activity may make it an ineffective choice for identifying suspected herpetic uclers.

Dosage/Instructions

To insure full fluorescence and patient comfort, the impregnated tip should be moistened before application. 1 or 2 drops of sterile irrigating or saline solution should be used for this purpose. Touch conjunctiva or fornix as required with moistened tip. It is recommended that the patient blink several times after application.
